Economic Downturn: FGN Taking Measures To Facilitate Early Recovery In 2021 – Lawan

The Nigerian legislature and the executive arm of government are taking adequate measures to enable the country exit from economic recession early in the New Year.

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who gave the assurance in his New Year message to Nigerians, blamed the coronavirus pandemic for the recession in in 2020 shortly after recovering from the previous one.

He expressed optimism that fiscal policies and legislation implemented by the executive and the legislative arms of government would soon bring normalcy to the economy.

“We believe that allowing the implementation of this outstanding capital component of the 2020 budget to run concurrently with the 2021 budget will inject more funds to the economy. Also on our priority list in 2021 is the amendment to the 1999 Constitution, which is the ‘grundnorm’ of our being together as a nation, the process, which started in 2020, requires extensive consultations and the buy in of everybody.” The Senate President said.
